Dental Implants - Human's "Third Teeth"
Dental implants are mainly divided into three parts: implants, abutments, and crowns, of which the most important is the implant. An implant, also known as an artificial tooth root, is a device that is surgically implanted into the jawbone of the human edentulous part and repairs the upper part of the denture after healing.
The quality of the implant material is very important. According to its material, it can be roughly divided into 5 types:
1. Carbon materials: including glassy carbon, low-temperature isotropic carbon, etc.
2. Polymer materials: including acrylates, polytetrafluoroethylene, poly maple, etc.
3. Metal and alloy materials: including gold, 316L stainless steel (iron-chromium-nickel alloy), cast cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy, pure titanium, etc.
4. Ceramic materials: biologically inert ceramics, biologically active ceramics, and biodegradable ceramics, which are all dental implant materials.
5. Composite materials: that is, the composite of the above two or more materials, such as metal surface sprayed ceramics, etc.
1. Are these implant materials safe?
The first thing to be sure of is that all implants have been confirmed by years of clinical trials and are non-toxic to the human body. Although there are many types of dental implants, the most commonly used implants in the market are pure titanium and titanium alloy implants.
Titanium has good compatibility, so it is relatively stable in the human body, non-toxic and free of side effects, and will not cause irritation. Since titanium is not magnetic, even if an implant is installed, it will not affect normal medical examinations such as X-rays. Therefore, titanium materials are still widely used in medicine, such as artificial bones and joints, heart valves, pacemakers and so on.
Therefore, the implant itself is harmless, but for a very small number of people, there will be an allergy to titanium metal, so titanium-type implants cannot be used, and they can choose all-ceramic implants.
2. What should I do after dental implants?
1. On a postoperative day, the patient was given a semi-liquid or full-liquid diet. Do not brush your teeth for 24 hours after surgery to avoid irritating the wound.
2. Dental implants are generally divided into 2 steps: the first implantation of artificial tooth roots; the second time, fixed dentures are placed on the artificial tooth roots that have been stabilized. After the artificial tooth root is implanted, temporary dentures cannot be worn until the stitches are removed. After the stitches are removed for 7 to 10 days, see if they need to be modified before deciding whether to wear them.
3. Within 3 to 6 months after the stitches are removed, pay attention to protecting the artificial tooth root and do not use it to chew hard, so as not to loosen the tooth root and affect the newly formed bone around the tooth root, thus affecting the implantation effect. This is to ensure that the implantation effect is extremely high. Important issues.
4. Pay attention to oral hygiene after implantation of artificial tooth roots, rinse your mouth in time after meals, or rinse your mouth with liquid medicine, and use a soft brush or cotton swab to clean the implant abutment operation area once every morning and evening.
5. After dental implants, it should be prevented from being impacted by external forces, and it is not advisable to chew hard things immediately. Once the impact may injure the root of the tooth, immediately go to the hospital for inspection and treatment.
6. Observe the condition of the implant and wound surface at any time, and contact the doctor in time if any problem is found.
7. Conscientiously implement the doctor's orders and return to the hospital for follow-up visits regularly. Usually 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months follow-up.
